Just got back from mailing Brigid's b-day present, which involved taking MUNI Line 28 two directions for a total of 14 blocks.

Today, San Francisco is very lucky I am not armed. I cannot believe the amount of utterly rude behavior I witnessed on that bus today.

(Quick note: We've begun what we laughingly call summer here in SF.. Temps are up in the 80s somewhere. Still, some of this stuff is common.)

Offence 1: Failure to yield forward sets to the elderly and disabled. As with most buses, the front seats on MUNI are reserved for people with mobility issues. On both trips, there were people in those seats blatantly ignoring the elderly trying to stand in the aisle. Being one of the invisibly disabled, I realized that some of them might have had problems themselves, but seven of them? On one bus?

Offence 2: Taking up two seats on a full bus. I've ranted about this before, but it happened three times on my short trip. Take the aisle seat to block anyone from getting next to you. In this case, I saw one woman with a toddler forced to stand and try to keep her kid from flying as a business-suit type focussed on his PDA. Several people asked him to move over, but he ignored them. I was so tempted to grab the PDA and see how well it flew when I flung it out the window.

Offence 3: Failure to move to the back of the bus. Both trips were packed. I guess they had problems along the system somewhere along the line that cut down the number of buses running today. But stop after stop, people would get on, move just over the yellow line, and stop dead. When I got off on my way home, I could see the length of the bus, and there was at least eight feet of clear space in the back. Of course, all the driver can see is the mob at the front, so he might skip stops!

Offence 4: Waiting until the last second to signal/prepare for stops Oy. People were waiting until the stop was twenty feet away to ring for the stop. Then of course they had to gather all their stuff and push their way to the door. Admittedly, I was travelling light today, but when I do carry a lot of items, I make sure I am ready to go and near the doors at the stop before the one I need. I also signal right after we pass the stop before mine.

Offence 5: Screaming your conversations. Lady, I don't speak Cantonese. And I really don't want to hear your shriek it at the top of your lungs.

There, that describes what happened on two bus trips that lasted maybe a total of 15 minutes. Amazing.

Ah, another season of Survivor, and already I hate someone. Robb the skatepunk must be stopped. What kind of idiot beings a skateboard to an island? His entire tribe seems to be incapable of understanding that this isn't a vacation, and that monsson season means rains that are unbelievalble.

Oh, well. He'll learn. And I'm going to have fun watching!
