Aug. 6th, 2001 07:30 amWell, that was special. This morning, about 0515, two transformers blew up outside Supershuttle. Instant darkness! Most of the computers go black (My main console stayed up, thank Murphy)
I spent the next 45 minutes of my shift fighting to keep the system operating even half-heartedly. We kept losing functions, having to shut down and re-open programs, all of which was not helped by the roaring of our back up generator outside the dispatch office.
Finally, it was decided to take everything all the way down, and do a cold reboot. At which point my shift ended. You can bet that I was out of there as fast as I could run. (I had an excuse: I get rides home from our drivers, and one was waiting for me.)
All the way home, I hear Sandy, the day shift dispatcher, sending vans to various areas with orders to stand by until the system was back up. I have never been so happy to work grave.
