LiveJournal is Dead.

If you are reading this and have a LiveJournal, go and delete it immediately. The new terms of service are binding only in Russian, so we have no clue what's actually in them. This is the final straw.
Ever since the sale to the Russians, LJ has slowly become unbearable. Good riddance.

Date: 5 Apr 2017 17:34 (UTC)The fun thing is, you can still find Dreamwidth's original “vision statement” - as the name suggests, they'd hoped to become a sort of Deviantart, an artists' colony. But they're all from LiveJournal originally, and when LJ began shaking the tree that concept was abandoned in the face of the refugee flood and they perforce simply became “LiveJournal II.”
Now, as they said, they're getting a second wave of Russian-speaking users and they're dealing with that as best they can!

Date: 5 Apr 2017 15:22 (UTC)Actually, I have read them, and there's no substantive change. Paid memberships are still administered by LiveJournal Inc.
13.4. Платные услуги не являются предметом Соглашения. Администрация не несет никакой
ответственности за Платные услуги. Все вопросы, связанные с получением Платных услуг,
необходимо адресовать Live Journal Inc.
The differences are only technical, and you'd have to really TRY to encounter any kind of problem.
With that said, I'm easing on out of there as well, simply because it's not ours any more, and the new owners are making that clear.

Hello Dreamwidth
Hi From DW!
Well, they finally did it.

seats at the table-d'hote shrink pitifully at each succeeding meal; as suites of rooms are closed, carpets taken

cannot help being somewhat affected by all these flittings and farewells, this eager discussion of plans, routes,

Date: 6 Apr 2017 08:40 (UTC)Oh ho, no. The change in LiveJournal is NOT aimed at us at all. Russians use LiveJournal as a political forum, heavily and daily, WAY more than we do. This is dangerous. In times past, LJ suffered massive, mysterious DDoS attacks -jammed in classic SovBloc tradition. Now such activism is simply outlawed - and not just on LiveJournal!
Russia is not America. Here, no one is let alone, yet we have rights. There, if you don't bother the authorities, they won't bother you. But if you DO -
Ch-chakk - BLAM!!
