A night of revelry!

Last night Kirsten and I celebrated our 24th anniversary in a pretty low-key fashion. She picked me up after work and we headed to Santana Row for dinner at The Counter, which turned out to be amazing. While all the specialty burders looked interesting (and they have one that is just burger and bun, yay!) We both opted to build our own burgers. I had a 1/3rd lbs beef patty with Spicy Pepper Jack cheese on an English Muffin. I decided to try three sauces; the house steak sauce, Korean BBQ sauce, and a roasted garlic aioli. Of the three, I like the garlic the best. It went well with the cheese and the burger. We also split an order of their Parmesan fries. We know next to split a small order. Food was incredible, service was very good. We will be going back, especially as we go to a lot of movies and special events at the CineArts theater there. With all the options, it will be years before I work just the things I'd be interested in trying!

Which brings us to the second part of the evening. Kiri and I met 25 years ago at No Name Pizza after a Legion of Rassilon meeting. She happened to mention a vague interest in the Dead. Our first date was seeing the Jerry Garcia Band at the Warfield. Our second was road-tripping down to see the Dead at Cal State Dominguez Hills. The two shows, May 5-6, 1990, were on the school's soccer pitch which was right next to the Olympic Velodrome. I proposed on the way back up the coast, and a year alter we were married.

So when we learned that CineArts would be showing a concert film of the Dead performing at Alpine Valley in July, 1989 we knew what we had to do for the anniversary. The concert was excellent, right up until the encore. These special events, unless advertised as streaming live, are sent out on DVDs. So whoever was supposed to reset the timing in our house forgot to do so. The result? Right in the middle of Turn on Your Love Light the sound cuts off and the house lights come up. Plenty of pissed-off Deadheads (me included) pile out to demand action. Luckily, this being a DVD, the manager was able to go back to the start of that section.

Other than that, it was fun. There were people dancing off to the sides and a couple of blatant violations of California laws on smoking indoors. It wasn't tobacco. Deadheads. What are you going to do?

But today I had to go have surgery. I saw my new dermatologist a couple of weeks ago and she biopsied some of the more interesting bits of my skin. This led to her receptionist calling out of the blue to schedule the removal of one of the blobs on my back. Kirsten took the day so I would have to drive. I love Dr. Zaba, who is a fellow Giants fan and loves to chat. Turns out what I thought was just a fleshly tag is actually fibroepithelioma. Specifically, I had a Pinkus tumor removed. For those of you scoring at home, or even if you're by yourself, this is third cancer I've been diagnosed with. Luckily, it's a relatively mild one, and We probably got it all. I just can't go to the gym until the stitches are out and can't drink beer for another 44 hours. Yes, I'm timing it.

And hey, my old uniform still fits!
