OK, seen in many journals, so I'm not going to try to give credit to any one person.
1. I am terrified of deep water
2. Which is odd, because when I was a kid, it was impossible to get me out of the ocean.
3. I have worn glasses since I was ten.
4. My mental picture of myself is me at about 12. I really can't picture myself as an adult.
5. I hate pictures taken when I'm posing.
6. The one thing that I'd love to do that I can't is sing. My voice is awful.
7. I'm a total sports nut. Mainly football and baseball, but I'll watch most anything.
8. As a child I was a complete coward.
9. I was the short fat kid until my freshman year of high school, when I suddenly rocketed up.
10. I could read well by the time I was three. In first grade I was reading on a sixth grade level.
11. Conversely, I have extreme problems with math. I can do arithmetic, but get into algebra and I'm lost.
12. A book that I hated when forced to read it in school has become one of the largest influences on my
life. The Bridge at San Luis Rey changed the way I look at people, I always wonder "what brought them here, to this point, at this time?"
13. I dropped out of High School during my senior year so I could attend an adult ed program that would get me my diploma by taking the GED.
14. I spent exactly one year in a community college. I spent my time goofing off, and failed everything except a class where you passed by spouting the teacher's Marxist rhetoric back at him.
15. I have been asked where I did my graduate studies in areas such as cultural anthropology, history, and sociology by people in those fields. They are stunned when they learn that I am self-taught.
16. After the Army, I joined the Socialist Party. It seemed a good idea at the time.
17. In high school, I was a social leper. Luckily, I found the other lepers and hung out with them.
18. For years, my nickname was Traveller, both for the game and the custom t-shirt I had with that written on it. One guy could never remember my name, so he just called me "that Traveller dude", and it stuck.
19. I have played war games since 1976, and role-playing games since 1977.
20. When I was in the 4th grade, my teacher got me to clean my desk by hiding old military patches in it.
21. I am uncircumcised because my English father was shocked that it was considered standard, and refused to allow it to happen to me. Whatever, Daddy.
22. I have no sense of fashion. I just wear what I like, and occasionally fashion washes over me.
23. To this day, I don't know how to tie a necktie.
24. Eating fresh fruit and veggies makes me physically ill.
25. I am actually pretty shy, and clueless about social situations.
26. Before joining the Army, I had never held a firearm.
27. The 1812 Overture is by far my favorite piece of classical music.
28. I cannot stand ballet. I just don't get it.
29. I love trivia. I collect random little bits of information that lodge in my head.
30. One of my favorite sounds is slate or shale sliding down a slope. Can't explain it.
31. When I was a kid, I saw Hank Aaron play baseball.
32. I have met several of my musical heroes, including Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead, and the late John Entwistle of The Who.
33. I really believe that my life needs a sound track. Or a laugh track.
34. I dislike coffees and teas, but drink Coke by the gallon.
35. While in the service, I became a Field Hygiene and Sanitation NCO.. and got a medal for it.
36. My very first Dead show, Boreal Ridge in 1985, was a miracle show. I didn't now until we got there that we didn't have tickets.
37. I am always cold. My idea of heaven is a roaring fire, a thick comforter, and one or two companions.
38. Until the last year, I never would have thought that I could be polyamorous.
39. My first day in the Army I met the highest-ranking general in the service, General Wikham, the Chief of Staff.
40. I dream in color, and with all my senses. I sometimes remember dreams clearly enough to write them down.
41. My hair has been a constant source of irritation for me. It doesn't do what I want it to do.
42. I therefore try to keep it military short.
43. My musical tastes are all over the place, from Dylan to filk to metal to punk.
44. The first concert I went to was a Day on the Green at the Oakland Coliseum.
45. I can't watch Rent. It just hits too close.
46. I used to be a tour guide at the Winchester Mystery House.
47. My worst job was at a packing supply store run by a fundamentalist weirdo.
48. While driving for SuperShuttle, I once picked up my old platoon leader.
49. I have my own personal teddy bear, named Rhodie.
50. If I had the chance to be successful rock musician, I'd want to be the drummer.
51. I really did call 867-5309.
52. During my youth, I went through a punk phase, a mod phase, and an artist phase.
53. By the time I was 13, I had given up on school. I just couldn't figure out why they just wouldn't let me learn my own way! I aced all the tests!
54. My three-and-a-half year GPA from Leigh High School: 0.50
55. My average score on midterms and finals during that period: 98%
56. I spent about 2/3rds of my life in a fruitless attempt to please my father. Since I wasn't a jock, and had opinions of my own, this was hopeless.
57. My dad was appalled that his second son was also marrying a fat chick. He barely moved during the ceremony.
58. After I got sick, we reconciled a bit. I think I was the only one speaking to him on a regular basis before he died.
59. I've never broken a bone, although I severely dislocated my right shoulder in the Army.
60. I'm one of those people who can re-read books time after time. I've read Lucifer's Hammer dozens
of times, and still love it.
61. I prefer sunrises to sunsets.
62. Thunderstorms are very cool.
63. At Ft. Irwin, I walked a guard post in a sandstorm. My goggles were etched to opacity.
64. I love spicy foods.
65. I've been poor so long it is hard for me to spend money. Even when I have it, and know that I can spend it, it takes a force of will to open the wallet.
66. I'm missing three teeth from the after-effects of Dilantin, an anti-convulsant I used to take. Two molars and an incisor.
67. I have an awful tattoo of the Dead's thunderskull on my arm. It reads "Greatful Dead".
68. Other than surgical scars, I have one on my face from shaving, and one on my left hand from a piece of luggage.
69. I can't resist a good flame war.
70. My first sexual experience (with a partner) was at 14.
71. I am compulsively early.
72. To go with this, I have a fascination with timepieces. I love old-fashioned pocket watches.
73. Occasionally I go into cleaning frenzies where I just clean everything.
74. I'm naked under my clothes.
75. I still reflexively come to attention or parade rest around authority figures.
76. I dislike being touched without warning, especially by strangers.
77. It is a constant source of amazement to me that humanity has survived this long.
78. When I am very angry, I rub my head vigorously with both hands,

94. My first (and most beloved) car was the Yellow Peril, a 1973 Datsun station wagon that was baby-puke yellow. I think the only thing holding it together was the Dead stickers.

And, so crazy, I was at that Boreal Ridge show in '85! Crazier still, it was my first Dead show.
*sigh* I don't talk to you enough, and I certainly don't see you enough, but, damn I love you.
