The big knock against the Giants all season was we had no offense. No big bats. No threat to win any of the hitting trophies. So, how did we win the World Series? Pitching and strong defense. We won by keeping other teams from scoring.

So, how many Gold Gloves did a stellar defense gets? I mean surely Freddie Sanchez won one for his impersonation of a black hole for line drives, right?

We got nothing.

We're not winning the Cy Young this year, Roy Halladay is the hands down favorite for that, but Buster Posey had better win NL Rookie of the Year.

Like the new user pic?

Don't count Lincecum out for Cy Young, I'm not so sure Halladay gets it this year.

Timmy had that awful August that killed his stats. Halladay threw a perfect game and his stats were killer all year. Yeah, Big Time Timmy Jim led the league in K's but his ERA was pretty high.

That and I think there's a general dislike of given the award three times in a row to the same pitcher.

Only in this season can we say 3.XX is a high ERA, given the league average is usually around 4.50 anymore.

In any case, this is not a two man race - this is a four man race to me. Wainwright and Jiminez also have a case.

As Joe Posnanski points out (http://joeposnanski.blogspot.com/2010/11/jeter-question.html), the Gold Gloves are partly about defense, and partly about overall approval by managers and coaches -- a group that votes on this award and no other.

And going by UZR, Sanchez was fifth in the NL. The actual winner, Brandon Phillips, was second. It's very unlikely that the managers and coaches look at new-fangled statistics before voting.

Posey had better win.
