Aside from my dislike of talking heads, I'm exhausted after a 10.5 hour day yesterday, and what they did to me today. You really want to look at the map. Those were all my stops. One delivery at "B". Admittedly, it was ten pallets and about $75,000 in revenue, but it's still a 100+ miles away. This was why I worked so late yesterday, they sent me to Gayle as a freaking hot shot at 1200hrs.
I finished that delivery at about 0900, and I'm not going to lie. I like doing Gayle runs. Nice drive through some pretty country and I only have to stop and mess with gates once. Called in for pick ups, and get handed stop "D" on the map. I laughed, because that is literally the furthest possible vendor they could have assigned. Better yet, the truck I was in has a malfunctioning power outlet, so no GPS, and you think they issue us maps for Yolo and Sacramento counties? Not. But I know that I-5 would take me through Sacramento and on south. My initial plan was to follow 5 to Stockton and cross over to SR 99 there, but freeway signs warned me of a big wreck on I-5, so I pushed on through Sacramento traffic and caught up with 99 in that beautiful city.
Needing to refuel, I stopped in Stockton at a CFN station near the Stockton Airport. This put me close to a vendor I used to visit daily before the routes got all chopped up. Called in and yes, there was a pick-up scheduled there! Slight digression: Our purchasing agent is a lovely young woman who I love to death. But she has no clue about the geography of Northern California. She should have realized that when I called in that I was ready for pickups in a place that is is just north and west of Sacramento, and she gave me a Modesto pickup, that no matter how I rolled, I would pass through Stockton. Indeed, this particular vendor is near the closest approach of those two highways. I called in for pickups to save other drivers work. Instead, it almost duplicated efforts.
But anyway, my old friends at the Stockton vendor were happy to see me. I was accused of showing up solely to gloat over the Giants' victory. Grabbed my pallet, and onwards to Modesto, then back to the warehouse! 6.5 hours, 302 miles all told. And get told to do hot shots. I put my foot down. I took my legally allowed and required lunch. I was exhausted. Driving that far and in that truck is draining. In the middle of an active warehouse, I got a 20 minute nap. Woke up to find a single order waiting. Did that, voted (provisional ballot due to DMV fail), hit the +5 Game Store of Awesome to check on Ars Magica stuff, came home, and made some dinner.
Counties driven through today: Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, Solano, Sacramento, Yolo, San Joaquin, Stanislaus. Eight is a new record!
And now to bed.
World Series Champion San Francisco Giants. I am never getting tired of saying that.
Looks like the GOP is taking the House, but the Senate is remaining under Democratic control. This is bad for the Tea Party loons, since they were laboring under the delusion that they were going to undo everything Obama did. Between needing to pass a Dem-controlled Senate, and Obama's veto pen, they'll be powerless. Remember how quickly the far-right turned on Mass. Senator Scott Brown when he didn't toe the line?
