Amazing as it sounds, I really need to be in the right mood to post these. I have to be excited about the band or the clip, pull up the relevant websites for the links, come up with witty things to say, yadda, yadda yadda. After a week of nasty Con Crud, I don't even want to listen to music much, let alone The Dillinger Escape Plan (who are next up in the queue.)

So instead, enjoy some absolute awesomeness. From Andrew Lloyd Webber's 50th birthday celebration which first aired about 11 years ago. Antonio Bandares (drool) as Che Guevera singing Oh What a Circus from Evita. One of my all-time favorite musicals, mainly due to the topic and great lyrical by-play. If you haven't seen it, this occurs very early in the first act. The show opens with a crowd in a movie theater being told that Eva Peron has "entered immortality" and mourning sweeps the nation. Che Guevera, who acts as both a character and a sort-of narrator, comes on stage to marvel at the national spectacle. Lyrics here.

The man can tango. Makes me wish I was gay. And that he was gay.

Luckily, Antonio is gloriously straight eye candy for us girls. Yum. He has a very lucky wife. ;)
Except when he has been throwing up hair balls. :D
PS For the out of touch, he is also the voice of Puss N Boots in the Shrek movies.

Banderas doesn't really have the chops for musical theatre, I think. Yes, he's eye candy, but that role needs a stronger singer.

I am so used to hearing David Essex sing this. My brain was wondering what was going on. Great production though. :)

Personally, I've found Banderas yummy since Desperado. :)

I thought Banderas was absolutely brilliant in the role.

Evita was the first big-stage musical I've seen, when Bishop High School's honor society went on a trip to Los Angeles where we saw it at the Schubert Theatre (and we got a, well, not back-stage, but front-of-house tour where they showed us how the complicated staging worked). I also saw the touring production that came through Sacramento when I lived in Folsom in the 1990s. It's probably my second-favorite musical after 1776. I played the soundtrack so many times that I wore out the tape. It is terrible history, but great theatre.
