The con crud continues. Fever spiked last night and I was so dizzy this morning I feel over when i got up. So I'm drinking fluids, watching my temperature, and if things get worse I'm calling my doctor.
But now the Reader Meme! Ganked from

1) What author do you own the most books by? Personally, a close race between David Weber and Harry Turtledove. Add in Kirsten's stuff and Anne McCaffrey is in the running. Notice that all three authors are known for long series.
2) What book do you own the most copies of? I have several duplicates but I'm not aware of any book where I own three or more copies.
3) Did it bother you that both those questions ended with prepositions? I noticed it, but it didn't really bother me.
4) What fictional character are you secretly in love with? None.
5) What book have you read the most times in your life? Probably A World Out of Time by Larry Niven
6) What was your favorite book when you were ten years old? Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers
7) What is the worst book you’ve read in the past year? Off Armageddon Reef by David Weber. Interesting idea, but terrible execution. The sequels have improved, somewhat.
8) What is the best book you’ve read in the past year? WWW: Wake by Robert Sawyer. Amazing, and the sequel is just as good.
9) If you could force everyone you know to read one book, what would it be? Pilgrim's Progress because I'm a cruel bastard.
10) Who deserves to win the next Nobel Prize for Literature?
johnnyeponymous. Of course, the idea of Chris Garcia loose among royalty is disturbing...
11) What book would you most like to see made into a movie? Ringworld. Done right, it would be awesome.
12) What book would you least like to see made into a movie? Lucifer's Hammer. It's too dated, and any film would have to cut 2/3rds of the subplots.
13) Describe your weirdest dream involving a writer, book, or literary character. Had a dream once where I had a book that I had to read, and kept getting interrupted.
14) What is the most lowbrow book you’ve read as an adult? Define lowbrow.
15) What is the most difficult book you’ve ever read? The Illuminatus Trilogy I read that thing five times before i finally figured out everything that was happening.
16) What is the most obscure Shakespeare play you’ve seen? I've only scene a couple of the plays, and they were the biggies.
17) Do you prefer the French or the Russians? Cuisine? Military? Viticulture?
18) Roth or Updike? Roth. As far as I know, John Updike never recorded with Van Halen whereas David Lee Roth defined the band.
19) David Sedaris or Dave Eggers? Dave's not here, man.
20) Shakespeare, Milton, or Chaucer? Milton.
21) Austen or Eliot? Eliot.
22) What is the biggest or most embarrassing gap in your reading? I have never actually read the entire Lord of the Rings. Tolkien's writing style just bogs for me.
23) What is your favorite novel? Last Call by Tim Powers
24) Play? God (A Play) by Woody Allen
25) Poem? Inferno by Dante Alighieri
26) Essay? Fenimore Cooper's Literary Offences by Mark Twain
27) Short story? At the Core by Larry Niven
28) Work of nonfiction? Guns, Germs, & Steel by Jared Diamond
29) Who is your favorite writer? Currently, Alastair Reynolds. Incredible, epic, hard SF/space opera. One of his books features a chase scene that lasts 60,000 years.
30) Who is the most overrated writer alive today? Dan Brown
31) What is your desert island book? FM 21-76 Wilderness Survival
32) And… what are you reading right now? WWW: Watch by Robert Sawyer

Date: 6 Jun 2010 03:01 (UTC)Get well or else! (Aside from my nurseliness, I have a cat who may end up thinking he's a nurse. Alas, Steve is such a chicken! He sure didn't get any courage from his namesake. You'd think naming him after a Marine and former Chicago cop would help. At least he's willing to console the really ill.)
