With the exception of our terrible 1-5 road trip, the Giants had an incredible April. We've beaten strong teams, found a way to win most nights, and are showing confidence up and down the order. The biggest pleasure has been our pitching. Tim Lincecum and Barry Zito are both 4-0 on the year.
Jonathan Sanchez is a respectable 2-1. Matt Cain and Todd Wellemeyer have both struggled, but are pitching well, they just need some run support. Our bullpen has mostly done the job. The Giants have the second best team ERA in the Majors at 2.75

Hitting is the biggest surprise. Before the season started the pundits were all predicting another light-hitting Giants offense. Right now, the Giants lead the National League in team batting average at a respectable .280, and are just behind the AL leaders Detroit and Kansas City at .282. Our attack has been led by the red-hot Nate Schierholtz (hitting .375) and the Kung-Fu Panda, Pablo Sandoval, hitting .368. Even Tim "The Freak" Lincecum is hitting .250!

Current standings in the National League West:

San Diego Padres: 15-8, .652
San Francisco Giants: 13-9, .591, 1.5 games back
Arizona Diamondbacks: 11-12, .478, 4 games back
Colorado Rockies: 11-12, .478, 4 games back
Los Angeles Dodgers: 9-14, .391, 6 games out of first and in the cellar! where they belong!!!

Let's keep it up in May! GO GIANTS!!!!

I wish I could afford to go to one of the games this weekend. Conditions look like they will be great.

Hmph. The purpose of an offense is to score runs, not get hits. You measure how well you're hitting by Runs, not BA.

Unfortunately, by that measure the Jints are 12th of 16 (though they're as close to fifth as they are to 13th -- the Nationals, Braves, Astros, and Pirates are really stinking up the joint).

To me the biggest surprise is still Zito, post-All Star Break last year notwithstanding.
