Saw my new oncologist today. He's Latvian, and was amused that I can swear in Russian. We discussed my past and current issues, and he wants me to get a PET scan and another blood screen. The blood work I can do tomorrow around my dermatology appointment, I'll get a notice for the PET in a few days.

We had one awkward moment while waiting for the appointment. We were chatting with this lovely older couple, having a good time, a few laughs, when they asked where we went to church. We both babbled the usual "We're not religious, we're still looking, we're still waiting to hear from the divine" that we use in these situations (had Kirsten not been there, I might have said "The Islamic center downtown. There is no God but god, and Mohammoud is His Prophet.") and that seemed to back them off.

Here's hoping this was a transitory infection, and nothing more.

You must be feeling under the weather. I can tell, because you didn't post anything about yesterday's game (http://espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=291004025).

Not so much under the weather as feeling a bit overwhelmed. I have several sports-related posts percolating, but I also have other things (both virtual and real) pending, and the concept that I might have a serious problem is distracting.

But yeah, dude.. I suggest you keep rooting for the Cardinals and cut yourself off from all media between the end of their season and Spring Training.

The Blues might give me some hope for a winning team between the World Series and Spring Training.

That being said, while I will both root for the Rams and hope that they can turn their season around, I don't exactly expect them to make a 12-0 run and win the division in a cakewalk. 9-3 in their remaining games might be enough to earn a wild-card playoff berth, so I haven't entirely written off the Rams' season yet....

Fortunately, there's also college football. Both Tigers teams for which I root (Mizzou (http://espn.go.com/ncf/clubhouse?teamId=142) and LSU (http://espn.go.com/ncf/clubhouse?teamId=99)) are ranked in the Top 25 (http://espn.go.com/college-football/rankings) in both the AP (sports writers) and USA Today (coaches) polls.

One of my usual answers is "IHOP". And agreed. Let's hope your oncologist stays a distant acquaintance.

I'm sorry, but my initial reaction was to wonder if this statement referred to the religious couple...then, again, I'm strange like that.
