Having a major holiday fall on a Tuesday or Thursday messes everyone up. Sure, you get that day off, but what of that orphan work day sandwiched between the weekend and the paid day off? What do you do with that?

Well, for my lovely employer, it's quite a quandary. We didn't have December 26th confirmed off unto mid-November (triggered, it is rumored, but a veritable flood of time off requests from people who were planning on traveling for Christmas.) With New Year's Eve tonight, and National Hangover Day tomorrow, the problem again arose. Starting Monday, the drivers were asking all our customers and vendors the vital question: "Are you working Friday?" It was a near universal negative. I had one site in Stockton that told me they would have a skeleton crew on Friday, but only to assist in charging and decharging parts of the building's electrical system in support of a time-sensitive effort to install fireproofing. No deliveries will be accepted.

All of us dutifully reported back that the few customers who were working Friday were either not accepting deliveries or were planning being on site for a very limited time. All our vendors reported they would be closed. Most of our big job sites were being closed by the general contractors, meaning even the little one-truck specialty guys who normally will-call wouldn't be working.

One would think that this would be a no-brainer.

Yet it wasn't until I got back in today that I was told that yes, we're closed on Friday.

Yay. This weekend, I am cleaning the living room.

Honestly, we were all afraid that this was going to be one of Adam's big "let's fix the warehouse!" projects.
