With thanks to [livejournal.com profile] redc1c4

Yeah. My stupidity involved sinking a M-113A1 in a pond and deciding it would be cool to see what would happen if we blew off over 3,000 rounds of 7.62mm in a single M-60 burst. (We melted the gun. Seriously. Miracle the thing didn't explode.)

He just... fired a mortar while holding it?

Somewhere, a range safety officer is having a coronary.

Screw the RSO -- the First Sergeant is probably having a conniption.

At least he didn't try the knee mortar (http://members.shaw.ca/nambuworld/t89pix.htm)trick.

Did he just fire a 60mm from the hip?

Dude. He doesn't need a personal weapon. He can just club the enemy to death with his testicles.

Holy... well, he doesn't exactly brace it on his hip. But still. I fired a 203 from the hip once and had a bruise for a week.

Reminds me of the old picture of the buck sergeant firing a Thompson with the butt braced on his chin!

who'd been respectably enlisted in the Navy (WWII, and it turned out it was so he could graduate HS after failing history) told stories of sinking two boats. Unfortunately, they were the ones he stood on.

We melted the gun. Seriously.

Not just the barrel, but the whole gun?

The chamber was glowing red. After we stopped, the bolt welded in the cocked position.

Let's just say that I gave up pizza and beer for two months, and got used to being called "private" again instead of "PFC."

but they caught you on tape firing the gun: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=827_1195142030

BTW: did you know that if you fire a 50 cal long enough, that you can see the bullets going down the barrel at night?

I never played with M2HBs that much, so no. Sounds pretty cool though.
