From a loon in alt.atheism

I don't hate anybody...I PITY THEM.

But God had to make fools, too...

On the other hand, WHEN DID "AMERICA" AND "FREEDOM" BECOME SYNONYMOUS WITH
"WONTON EVIL?"

I can hear the chant now. "Sell your soul, free egg roll." "You order combination plate #666, you want fry rice or steam rice?"

Thank you. I now have tea dribbling out of my nose and onto my keyboard.

Well played. :)

Oh frak, you beat me to it!

[I suppose it was such a good line that -someone- else would think of it too. Kudos.]

If it doesn't come with both sweet-and-sour dipping sauce and hot mustard, I don't want to be part of that revolution.

But of course! Dumplings can only flourish under totalitarian governments; it takes iron discipline and a firm, steady simmer of authoritarianism to unite them with that glorious Platonic ideal of dumplinghood. Immersed in the toxic, tepid bath of anarchic freedom, they turn... eeeevil.

Seriously though! Gnocchi? Fascist Italy. Klosen? Take your pick, Hohenzollern or Hapsburg absolutism. Wontons? Really only achieved perfection under the heel of British colonialism (Hong Kong), Guomindang blueshirts (ROC), Lee Kwan Yew's PAPism (Singapore), or in later years post-Deng Xiaoping 'state capitalism' (PRC).

It flows both ways, of course. Without the steadying influence of dumplings, an authoritarian regime inevitably collapses into squalid anarchy. Why do you think the Japanese invaded China in the 1930s? After the social unrest of the '20s, they realized they needed to secure a more advanced dumpling technology! It wasn't military spending that brought down the USSR, but disruptions in pelmeni production: perestroika allowed wheat and pork resources to be diverted into non-dumpling foodstuffs. Next thing you know, the coal miners were striking. Now that Putin's in charge -- the streets are lined with petrodollar-purchased pirogi!

Let's face it: "freedom" is "freedom from decent dumplings".

That's it, I'm locking you in a room with Ken Hite and Harry Turtledove. I want a ten book series.

I have only a weak sense of who those people are, but I'll take it as a compliment :)

Of course, by vol. 7 or 8 I think the evil wontons of freedom/the New World will be exhausted as a theme and we'll have to shift to consideration of the overlooked but alarming conflict between porridge and double-entry bookkeeping.
