The original Meals Rejected by Ethiopians.

Seriously, I would fight for Menu 12, with Menus 10, 3 and 1 being acceptable alternates. Menus 2 and 6 were a NOGO at this station.

Compare to the current menu

I think we need a case for the earthquake kit.

I'm with you on #2 - the ham & chicken loaf had to be one of the most disgusting things ever intentionally created for human consumption. #12b was close behind. #6, the frankfurters, wasn't all bad though.

In Scout Platoon, HHC, 1/67 Armor, 2nd AD, the thing guys fought over was #9, the Chicken a la King. It was OK, but no great shakes IMHO. Numbers 3 and 1 were my personal favorites, and I didn't mind #4 or #10. #5, the beef stew, wasn't bad if you could warm it up, but not very palatable cold.

I came to miss the C-rat scrambled eggs & ham, though.

EDIT: OMG, I followed the link to the C-rat menus and there, staring me in the face, was a) the fruit cake, which was best used still canned as a wheel chock and b) an opened case with the labels of the individual meals... and "Beef, Ground w/Spiced sauce". Which led immediately to flashbacks of Gallant Eagle '83, four straight meals of that gunk, and tonight's dinner trying to come back up.

I loathed 9, and used it for trade bait.

Thankfully, I enlisted after the demise of the C-rat.

Fortunatly, I only had to have MREs once.

Not memorably at all, except for the freeze dried ice cream, which our TI gave us the tip to eat dry then have a drink of water.

In NORAD, we'd walk in every day past the storage cages full of MREs. With signs with the expiration dates. As the dates approached, the kitchen staff would threaten us that they needed to consumed soon. Then the most recent date stack would disappear and we'd never get them served to us.

We joked they were send on down to the Army Base just down the road for the grunts to have when they went out into the field.

Mmmmmmmmm...I'd eat any of them. I was that sick freak in the platoon that loved MREs.

The only one, however, that gave me a moment of pause, was the Chicken Ala King. Only because I know the sauce technically should have a milk base..

Side note:

Can I steal your Icon? I've been searching for a good crossed rifles badge. I'm in progress of making a Ranger tab, but I've gotten lazy :P

I don't remember much about the C-rats except the side items. I loved the cinnamon rolls, the hard biscuits, the chocolate. I wish you could still get the sides.

I love the MREs, especially the sides like the cheese and crackers, and sweet breads.
