Jon likes to make a big deal out of the fact that Barack Obama has a nodding acquaintance with some people who were terrorists forty years ago. John McCain's campaign manager, Rick Davis, is currently receiving money, through his lobbying firm Davis Manafort, from someone who is currently prohibited from entering the US because of his ties to organized crime. He also works for the Ukrainian political party that is effectively an adjunct of the Russian government.

John McCain is either for or against privatizing Social Security, depending upon when you ask him. He wants private accounts either as a supplement to the currently existing program, or as a replacement for parts of the currently existing program. It also makes a difference whether you ask him, or whether you look at his website.

John McCain either does, or does not, agree with President Bush most of the time, depending upon when you ask him.

John McCain is either opposed to all Americans torturing people, or he's willing to let the CIA do so, depending upon when you ask him:

John McCain either thinks that the media treated Hillary Clinton unfairly, or he wants to avoid criticizing the media, his primary political base, depending upon when you ask him.

John McCain either does think that the Executive Branch needs to follow laws as passed by Congress, or he doesn't, depending upon when you ask him.

John McCain is either for comprehensive immigration reform, including an amnesty for illegal aliens, or he's against it. Or maybe he's for it, depending upon when you ask him.

John McCain either wants to kick Russia out of the G-8, and he wants to hold high level nuclear talks with them. He seems unaware that these are not compatible goals. Maybe Rick Davis should have a talk with him.

John McCain either opposes the Bush tax cuts, or thinks that they are a good idea and should be extended, depending upon when you ask him.

John McCain says that he called for the resignation of Donald Rumsfeld, except that he never actually did.

John McCain insists that he voted for every proposed investigation of the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, except that he actually voted against it twice.

John McCain either doesn't know how many troops are in Iraq, or his mastery of verb tense is limited.

John McCain is either in favor of benchmarks in Iraq with consequences if the Iraqis don't meet them, or he's criticizing Mitt Romney for being in favor of benchmarks with consequences if the Iraqis don't meet them.

Either John McCain is proposing to eliminate the Alternative Minimum Tax, or he's proposing to make the patch of the AMT permanent, depending upon when you ask him.

Either John McCain thinks that the estate tax is one of the most unfair taxes in existence and should be repealed, or he thinks that its an important part of the tax system of any great, civilized country, depending upon when you ask him.

John McCain isn't entirely sure whether he's in favor of subsidies for the nuclear power industry.

John McCain is in favor of a cap-and-trade system for carbon emissions, but he doesn't seem clear on what that means.

Regretfully, I'm a single issue voter on this one and I'm stuck with voting for someone who may not really match what I feel overall, but who doesn't have the negative history the other candidate (or cadidates if someone ends up VP) have.

Hopefully, we get back to a 50-50 split in Congress so we don't have as much politics for politic's sake and only enough agreement on what's absolutely necessary.
