Specifically, an Eee PC 4GB 701. Mine is black, natch.

This is the first computer that is mine as opposed to one I've shared with someone. Not a power machine, true, but it does what I need it to do: web and mail, what little office stuff I do, and play Nethack. I can even plug in my iShuffle and listen to my music.

After watching me stroke the computer in a disturbing manner in the car, we decided on the new little box's name. At first it was going to be MiniPC (I do a dead-on MiniMe "eeeee") but then we thought of a better one. The box is Mr. Bigglesworth.

Cool! The Eee is a great little machine; I nearly got one myself. Just the right size and weight for travel, and nearly indestructable.

I've been coveting one of those, but unfortunately I need it to run either OS X or Windows -- or at least an emulator that will let me run EasyGrade (http://www.orbissoft.com/ (http://www.orbissoft.com/)), which is only available for those two operating systems. (Three, if you count the Pocket PC operating system.)

They run easily on WinXP according to everything I've seen. The Luser Manual even has instructions for doing this.

There is a Windows emulation library called Wine for Linux; it may be worth seeing whether your app will run under it.

I'm given to understand that OS X has been hacked to run on the Eee, but I have no data past that.

Here's (http://uneasysilence.com/archive/2007/11/12654/) a couple of leads (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/dreams-can-come-true/399-ultraportable-apple-laptop-os-x-on-asus-eee-pc-323279.php)on that.

Me, I'm looking forward to leaving the cult island on an Asus-shaped raft.

Once I'm less broke.
