sigh. Well, what could we expect when our starting quarterback was Chris Weinke. This is a guy who, until two weeks ago, was keeping in shape by helping out at his local high school by throwing passes to the varsity receivers. High School! Not even to a freaking NCAA Division III school! The guy had basically had three days to learn the playbook and a week to figure out everyones' names.
So we finish the season at 5-11. Very disappointing. However, we did finish with better record than the Silver & Blech team across the Bay (Raiders end their season 4-12) and the hated Rams (St. Louis finishes 3-13.) Miami wins the First Overall Pick Award, going 1-15.
A couple of bright spots. Frank Gore gained over 1100 yards on the ground behind a questionable offensive line, and led the team in receptions with 53. Tight End Vernon Davis also had a very good year. But the standout was rookie linebacker Patrick Willis. A ProBowl selection and probable NFC Defensive Rookie of the Year, Willis had 162 tackles (123 solos,) 3.0 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.
GO NINERS!!!
