Comment in this post and I will choose seven of your interests I would like you to explain more clearly in your journal.

[livejournal.com profile] bunyip asked me about the following interests...

areology The study of Mars, in the same way that geology is the study of Earth. Mars is an increasingly fascinating place, and might well have once been much like Earth with warm seas and a thick atmosphere. Mars is also a world of extremes, with volcanoes that dwarf Everest and a canyon that could swallow Arizona's Grand Canyon without a trace.

alternative history What if? The best question in history. I love stories the follow paths not taken, especially those by Harry Turtledove. A well written alternate history shows you what might have been, had that nail been found...

nwobhm New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. I first got into metal as this movement was reaching American ears.

obscure canadian bands Blame [livejournal.com profile] kshandra. She got me listening to Moxy Fruvous, then [livejournal.com profile] thingunderthest got me into The Arrogant Worms, and I was off. Canada seems to produce more than its fair share of quirky little bands.. Great Big Sea, Captain Tractor, Three Dead Trolls In A Baggie, and I love the stuff I can get a hold of.

the grateful dead Cast your eyes back to late summer, 1985. I'm home on leave, and my best friend suggest we go see a concert at Boreal Ridge. (Have a map.) We get there and then I find out we don't have tickets. That was my introduction to the Dead. By the end of the show I was stunned. Who the hell were these guys, and why hadn't anybody told me about this before?? Dead shows were the one place where I felt comfortable in big crowds, and felt safe dancing. The music?

They're a band beyond description
Like Jehovah's favorite choir.
People joinin' hand in hand
While the music plays the band.
Lord, they're setting us on fire.

That is the only way I can describe the music of The Grateful Dead.

worldbuilding From my start as a role-player and GM, one of my favorite activities was world building. Developing a setting, be it a city, nation, planet, or entire interstellar empire, to a complete whole. As I've grown my standards for the realism and detail of my settings has increased.

Next time it's not otherwise occupied, I Want Your Brain. No, I'm not a zombie, I just want to play with it.

Is it more fun to play with when drunk, sober, or a wee bit tipsy?

best,

Joel
