When I made my suggestion for a global day of net silence, I severely underestimated how much flak I would get. A few points to make:

1. Osama bin-Laden, assuming he's still alive, could care less if our lives are normal. He wants us all dead. If you don't believe me, look into how many times Mideast peace plans have been derailed by extremist terrorists monkeying with the works. The man is a psychopath. We could have done everything he demanded and he would still hate us for not being Muslim.

2. If I hear "If we change, the terrorists will have won." one more time, I will puke. Guess what? They did win. Three out of four targets were hit, with massive loss of life.

3. I never suggested that people sit in silence. Just let the net sit for a day. Call your friends. Get together and real space. Go to the church of your choice. Sit in the park and throw nuts at squirrels. Hell, I'm going to a new doctor that day.

4. This thing is voluntary. But don't expect to see me online on 9/11. I shall be remembering the three people that I knew who died in the WTC crash, 2 from the Army, and one who I never met, but still feel close to.

I won't forget what you said, I thought what you wrote about a day off the net was insightful, interesting and thought-provoking. I respect the way you speak up about your ideas.

Things have changed...

It's not even the loss of life. We have changed. We've allowed fear to run our lives for almost a year. Folx are still scared to fly. We still see nothing wrong with our rights being stripped away in the name of "safety and security". We're trapped by our fears and in that, the terrorists have "won".

As I said in your first post on this, I will stay off. People can wait one day to find out how I managed. Or, ghod forbid, they could actually call and see how we are holding up.

It's the effort...

Maybe just doing something to remember them is the important thing...

..Whatever it is.

Something like you suggested with a noticable effect would be nice, but some people, for whatever reason, are unwilling/unable to.

At least, if you do it, it will have a noticable effect on those influenced by you...
