Science Fiction and Empires Science fiction has seemingly embraced monarchy as the natural government of interstellar states. What are the advantages of various forms of government when compared to the speed of communications and travel. Can you really have a Galactic Republic?

How Did You Get So Buff? Athletes take vitamins. Athletes drink protein drinks. Athletes use high tech shoes and swimsuits. But steroids and blood doping and golf carts are forbidden in competitive play. Where do we draw the line in sports enhancements and prosthetics? What enhancements can we expect in the future?

The Future of Religion There is a clash within virtually all modern nations between people who are prepared to live with and respect different faiths and those seek the domination of a single way of thinking including atheists. Where is our society and the world headed and what are the consequences?

Saturday. 1900. I'm doing a freaking panel with Larry Freaking Niven. swoon. Niven was my gateway drug into science-fiction. And I'm doing a sports panel with him! I am so bringing my copy of A World Out Of Time for him to autograph. Assuming I can speak coherently.

The only tricky part is my last panel. As of right now, I don't have that Monday off. So I'll need to work a regular day (and isn't it a sad commentary that I consider getting out without overtime to be a short day) and either grab the train up or have Kiri come and get me.

Larry Freaking Niven. And me. On a panel. I'm going to faint.

That panel on empires with Leslie Fish is gonna be "interesting".

I was going to say the same thing.

If you want to score points with Larry, find something he's not allergic to and take it with you to the panel. Way back at Makin' Orbit 92 or 93 I found that doing so gets him to talk about all kinds of things and puts you on his list of officially cool people.

I wonder if Niven remembers the time I flopped in his lap...

You're also doing panels with Scott freakin' Sigler and Kage freakin' Baker. I am really freakin' impressed. :-)

Rock on, dude. Lary Niven and you on a panel together. That's frickin' *cool*.

I'm actually going to be at Westercon. I'm going to spend most of the con being a gopher, but I'll probably have some time to take in a few panels, and you've got a few interesting ones. If nothing else, I'm sure I'll see you.

'Scatterbrain'

'Scatterbrain' left me crying. I had no idea that there was another brain out there that worked the same way mine does and, not only is not broken, it's brilliant.
