Friends, Romans, Countrymen, I work here.

Modesto is way over here.

Normally, I only go as far east as the second "e" in Livermore on that second map.

Three times this week I had to go to Modesto. This adds a minimum of two hours to my day. Add in having to go to Stockton, and then all the way to Concord, and I've had three days this weeks where I worked more than nine hours without a break. To be a bit graphic, I've gotten really good at peeing in empty Coke bottles. I seriously had no time to stop for anything.

Today I clocked in at 0645 and left at 1720. My check is going to rock, but I'm worn to a nub.

I've told my boss that if we're going to keep servicing Modesto, we need to change something. My suggestion is to designate one day a week for Central Valley work - Tuesday or Thursday would be my choice, and when there are deliveries to made out there, we tell the customer "we only go out on Day X." This works fine for the Wednesday-only run that Rambo makes every week. On that day, anything for the upper end of my route would be held over for a day. This way, I don't have to try to cover five counties in one shift.

The other option is to just stop delivering to Modesto. Since we have a couple of really good customers out there, I don't think this will happen.

Either way, I am so frickking happy its Friday.

Yes, Terminator 3 is bad, but it's no where as bad as Rambo II or Rambo III. ;)

Ow. Sympathies.

Back when I worked for Blue Shield of California in Chico, the company bought one of what turned out to be one of the last Wang VS minicomputers ever made. We had a service contract with Wang, but the engineer on call hated hearing from us, because he was based in Sacramento. He had us and one that was even worse -- Redding -- but getting a call from either of us more or less ruined his entire day.

I left Blue Shield before Wang went bang, so I never learned what became of that system.

Suggestion: work out how much money it would save the company to restrict deliveries to once a week. Having the numbers always helps when you're making a business case -- and from the company's perspective that's what you're making.
