A few days ago I posted Ground Forces' sales ranking on amazon.com. At that point it was 972,661 in books. An anonymous commenter suggested using Charteous to track my sales. Sounds cool, so I signed up and entered GF's ASIN.

Today, I go out to the sight and my jaw hits the desk. There, on the front page, Ground Forces is listed as one of the top gainers. I'm now at 165,870! The Amazon pages suddenly says that they only have two copies in stock.

WTF! We're having a military-realted discussion on the TML right now, which might have spurred a sale or two, but I doubt that would account for me improving my sales ranking by 84% overnight.

Not to disappoint you...

...but knowing Amazon, they may have had not that many copies of it in stock originally. And, with the sales rank in 900,000's, a five to eight sales per week would have improved it to 100,000's. Still, that's a great improvement.

So how's this translate into income or whatever?

Really not sure. I don't know if SJG sold a pile of books to Amazon, and I've already been paid for those, or if Amazon reports the sales and I earn my usual commission.

What is odd is that Amazon is charging the new release price. Warehouse 23 has all the 3rd edition stuff on sale to clear out inventory. You can get Ground Forces there for about ten bucks.
