I heard from John, my old manager at PODS today.
Mario got fired!!!!
Here's how it went down. As I mentioned when I got canned, Mario had begun switching the warehouse managers back and forth for no apparent reason. A couple of weeks ago, J was supposed to be working Hayward (which he preferred) the following week. On Friday, he gets a call from Mario telling him to go to Fremont on Monday; and then quickly adding "and work the week there." before hanging up. Well, J was a bit put out by this, and called back.
Mario didn't answer. J sends email. Mario doesn't answer. Several repetitions of this. Then a driver (new guy, hired after I left) breaks down. Chris goes to help him, and calls Mario (as required) to inform him of the problem. Suddenly, Mario is answering his phone. Frustrated, he sends an email to Mario expressing his displeasure at how the situation has been handled. He CC's both Mario's supervisors on this.
Mario finally decides to reply... boy, does he reply. He calls J incompetent, admits that he is breaking his own policies along with PODS corporate rules, and essentially saying "follow my whims or I'll destroy your career." Thing is, Mario forgot to take of the CC addresses.
Oops.
There was one more email, from Gary, the Regional Manager. Addressed to Mario, it quoted a few significant portions of Mario's email and said "Please wrap up your business with PODS and leave."
Even better, J told me that Gary had recommended that I not be fired! He didn't know I had been fired until a week after the fact! Mario "forgot" to send the paperwork through the regional office.
Amazing.
