I had to work today, and thankfully the freeways were mostly empty so my day was pretty much stress free. But I did witness something which I thought y'all might appreciate.

One of the local malls (Valley Fair, for the locals) is located at the intersection of two freeways. During my day, I had to drive one of those freeways a couple of times. The backup to get off the freeway and into the mall stretched a mile and a half at 0730. It got worse as the day went on. But here is where the suckage comes in.

People, inevitably in big-ass SUVs, would not get into the exit lane, but would instead tool along the line up of cars waiting to exit at 35mph (on a freeway, remember) and the moment they saw a space even half their size they would slam on their brakes and try to cut in. This caused traffic in all four lanes of the freeway to hit their brakes, thinking there was an actual hazard ahead, as opposed to an asshat cutting in line.

If they couldn't get in, then the idiots would either continue going 30mph below the speed of traffic, or suddenly veer across lanes without signaling. All this on rain-slick roads.

My last trip past, there were California Highway Patrol vehicles at the exists, and they had coned off the exit lane going back a mile. Three cars were pulled over with very pissed looking shoppers in them.
