gridloreReady to head out and start doing things in the field, I showed up at work bright and early, and found that everything had gone to hell.
Two drivers were out, and it was a heavy day. Sergio said that I and the other rookie should stay at the warehouse and do some cleaning duties and "just hang out".
So I spent a few hours stacking moving pads, sweeping the warehouse, cleaning restrooms, and the like. Then I settled down to wait for Da Serg. And waiting. Since I was expecting to be busy, I left my book at home. I read my Driver's Manual (cover to cover), actually caught a short nap, and played a lot of Road Rally on my PalmPilot.
Sergio shows up around 1230, asks me how San Diego was, laughed at my sunburns, and gave me my paycheck.
$471.99. For one week! Ladies, Gentlemen, Others, I rarely made that much in a month at CostPlus. Next week's check will be much larger, because this one was short four hours! (I should have been paid for my travel Sunday.)
So basically I worked my ass off for three hours, lazed around for five, and went home. And got paid for it.
I have a bottle of NyQuil to deal with the cough that has been torturing me for a week. I'm going to drink some in a bit and crash out for the night.
