That wasn't so bad

gridloreAfter waking up enough to make it in, work wasn't as bad as I feared it would be this morning. Sure, I got soaked to the core on the first two rounds, but by noon the sun was breaking through. I love San Francisco weather, wait five minutes, or drive five miles and it changes.
After things cleared, I made a point of patrolling slowly, checking out stores and speaking with managers. Wherehouse was playing Metallica on their sound system, so I tarried a while to enjoy it. Went around to Barnes and Noble and asked if Harry Turtledove had any books scheduled to come out soon.. the cashier printed out a list for me. Turns out the second American Empire book, "The Center Cannot Hold" is due out in June. I'm willing to bet Other Change of Hobbit will have it at BayCon.
Wander, wander, wander.. Take a few breaks in the car, and before I know it, it's getting close to quitting time. Then the boss calls. They need me to train a guy who will be covering SO Hines' shift. Nice enough guy named Alex. Then I find out what's happened to him.
He works at another site. He worked their today from 0700 to 1500. Then he gets over to my site courtesy of a supervisor to start work at 1600, and he's staying until 0400 tomorrow morning! Then he's supposed to do his regular shift at the 5th and Mission garage!
Holy Batcrap, I thought we had labor laws! That's 18 hours in one 24 hour period! He had better be making triple time after the first eight hours at my site. By my calculations, he should make $400 at my site alone. Alex didn't know this. He thought he was getting a straight $10/hr.
I am so proud of my company sometimes.
