gridloreThis is a rare admission, but a book is defeating me. I've been plowing through Thucydidies' "The Peloponnesian War" (Rex Warner translation) for weeks now, and I'm only on page 244.
It's just so fucking dense, and everything is interrupted constantly by arduously long orations! It's less a chronicle of a vast war than a collection of speeches with minor comments about battles here and there. I have no sense of motion in this book.
I'll keep going, but one more section that is ten pages of oratorical battle, and I'm done.
