Last month I ordered a new power strip for my desk and a copy of The Travels of Ibn BattĂșta: Explorations of the Middle East, Asia, Africa, China and India from 1325 to 1354, An Autobiography

I got the power strip, and it is wonderful, but instead of the book, I got a lamp dimmer. Contacted Amazon, explained the problem, and that I had not received my book, but instead a completely unrelated item. No worries, I was told, we'll send you a return label!

That never happened. I did get my book. Remember, this is a replacement for an item never sent.

Today I get an email reminding me to return my "extra" copy of Ibn BattĂșta. The one I never received. This time, I opted for a phone call. I explained all this, that I only have one book because they screwed up, and what I have is a lamp dimmer that was never ordered, which is why you don't see it in my order history. Someone in a warehouse dropped the wrong item in my package. Mistakes happen.

They sent a return label for the book. Back on the phone. Get escalated. I only ever received one book. I still have the fucking lamp dimmer. No, I don't have an order number for that item because I never ordered it! Finally, I was told to just use the return label for the book, and a long note was placed on my account explaining the situation.

But what really annoys me is going through Amazon's customer support options I never once saw "I received an incorrect item" as an option.
