I actually don't get the thing about not wearing shoes in the house. Are are countries markedly cleaner? Over here, it's relatively dusty. You could could your floors, and walk on them a short while later and have dirty feet. Walking around inside without shoes will get you very dirty feet, no matter what. And that's not ever taking pets into account.
