kshandra and I were switching between a Giants game and the "Cloneversation"; BBC America's lead-in to the second season of
Orphan Black. Host Wil Wheaton had the amazing Tatiana Maslany on the couch. She plays all ten known clones in the series, and each is a very different character. Wil asked about her use of music in creating each character. She replied to the effect of that each character had a different rhythm, so she changed her internal rhythm to match the character.
That's when I nearly leapt to my feet, pointed at the TV, and shouted "That's what a stroke is!!!"
It's been so hard to explain the actual effects of my stroke on how I think. The gross effects - my needing a cane, the aphasia - are there for everyone to see. But I had no way to describe the deeper effects. The fundamental changes to my operating system I was dealing with. Until that moment.
I'm still here, but my music has changed, and I'm still learning the new rhythms.
