Heavy Metal Sunday comes to an end.
Jul. 10th, 2011 11:14 amI started does these posts in response to someone else doing "80's music Fridays" or somesuch. I never expected to spend close to four years doing doing it. But all good things must come to an end. Since August 19th, 2007 I have used my heavy_metal_sunday tag 224 times. This will be the 225th post, and the last regular one. Why am I stopping? You'd think that since I was home on disability I'd have more time to search out good videos. The thing is I used my video hunts as way to relax after work. Doing it no seems more like an obligation than fun. Since I'm not getting paid to do this, no fun is a good reason to stop.
HMS is not dead, I'll still post the occasional good (or weird) video, and you can expect your metal turkey come Thanksgiving. But for now I'm on hiatus. But let's go out with a bang, shall we?
First up is Metallica. Appropriate, since they were the subject of the very first HMS. For years Metallica has opened their shows with Ennio Morricone's The Ecstasy of Gold. In 2009 Metallica finally started playing it live in concert, usually in the "cover" slot in their encore.
Next up, the Metal Gods themselves, Judas Priest. Currently on their final world tour (although they are saying this isn't the end for the band, just an end to the monster tours) Priest defined the look of metal for a generation. Enjoy the Priest, Heavy Duty/Defenders of the Faith live in Montreal, 1984.
Finally, we have the great survivors of the NWOBHM, Iron Maiden, with an editorial comment on spending four years posting metal videos.. Wasted Years
Well, I had fun doing this, and I hope y'all enjoyed the selections, and maybe discovered a new band, or a new genre. Metal For Life!
