Yeah, an update.
Feb. 23rd, 2011 03:01 pmSince I'm spending close to 23 hours a day in my papasan chair (I sleep out here for several reasons) there really isn't that much going on in my life. I'm considered a severe fall risk due to the blood thinners, I'm on O2 24/7, and my appetite is non-existent. I have to make myself eat, because everything tastes like paste. This results in very little energy. So not so good times for the penguin.
Luckily I have about a zillion DVDs and have discovered Hulu.
We're expecting an arctic storm in the Bay Area, possibly as early as tomorrow night in the North Bay. Snow down to sea-level is possible all around the Bay for the first time in 35 years. Normally, I'd be thrilled, but I react very badly to cold right now, and our apartment pilot light is out. PG&E is scheduled to come out and light it... tomorrow night. I've been getting by with lots of blankets, but if we're getting a blast of arctic air, I need this apartment heated!
Been enjoying watching the proceedings down at Spring Training on-line. Best clip I've so far is some of the Giants' prospects visiting from the Minor League camp meeting Willie Mays. These kids are 18-19 year olds just starting in professional baseball, and they get to sit down and chat with the greatest player ever.
I did have one really great moment yesterday. I had a pulmonology appointment and a chest X-ray. Walking back to my mom's car, I stopped to rest while she got it from the garage. I'm dressed in my usual Giants finery. I have one of epic choking-on-phlegm moments as a kid in a San Diego Padres jersey walks in with his mom. Looked about 16. He glares at me, and barks "You dissing the Padres?" "Nah", I gasped, "I really am choking. But so did the Padres. Thanks for the parade, it was great!" Mom pulls him along saying "You really can't do that when they won the Series you know..."
