Just finished a game of CivIV played solely because I wanted to stomp other cultures into the ground. It worked, Domination victory in 1858, actually my best of all time, but on a lower difficultly level than I normally play.
What caught my attention was how the map was set up at the beginning of the game:

Take a look at that large circular ocean. Doesn't that suggest a very large impact crater to you? The civilizations are the surviving colonists who have fallen back to Iron Age technology while a few can still use the nanotech "magic items." Of course, there are numerous bunkers and storehouses, even a few forbidden cities dotting the terrain...
