Last year, the Giants were plagued by a lack of clutch and situational hitting, and a bullpen that would fritter away leads. This year?

The G-men are 3-0 and coming home after today's 10-4 victory over the Houston Astros. What's important is that this game was tied at 4-4 at the end of the seventh inning. The Giants rallied and piled on hits and runs to put the game out of reach. Last year, the Giants' highest number of hits in a game came in August at 18. Today, against very good pitching, we got 19 hits. Our relievers shut down a team that had seized the momentum in the game. These are all things that make me very hopeful for our chances this year.

In even better news, two of the more problematic hitters in our line up had either good series or at least a good final game. Edgar Renteria went 5 for 5 today, and is hitting .727 with a .786 OBP. Lead-off man Aaron Rowand, after going 0 for 10 in the first two games, had a 4 for 6 game today. We need him to get hot and stay at least comfortably warm.

No game tomorrow, home opener on Friday.

GO GIANTS!!
