Mastodon is an American progressive metal band from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in 1999. They are one of the most notable bands in the New Wave of American Heavy Metal. The band comprises bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders, guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds, guitarist Bill Kelliher and drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor. Today's track is March of the Fire Ants from their 2002 debut Remission
Bonus CD review! OK, the video went viral, and everyone has probably seen Don't Stop the Sandman already. But after looking at Rock Sugar's official site and listening to the samples, we just had to get Reimanginator. If you haven't heard of them, the story is Rock Sugar was an up and coming eighties metal band, until an ill-advised bat mitzvah gig on a yacht left them stranded on an island with several hundred cases of schnapps, lots of batteries, their gear, and a 13 year old girl's boom box and tape collection. Rescued 20 years later the band had blended metal with 80s pop.
The album? Kicks ass. Far from being a simple mash-up, these guys are actually playing and singing these hybrids. Lead singer Jess Harnell is an accomplished voice actor (he's done everything from America's Funniest Home Videos to being the voice of Wakko Warner.) He nails the various leads. His Steve Perry is frightening. Guitarist Chuck Duran can go from Kirk Hammett to Neal Schon in seconds, and the vocal harmonies are better than most serious acts. Each song is a delight. My only complaint is some of the in-song transitions are a bit forced and abrupt. Still well worth ordering! 5 stars!
Rock Sugar - Because Pop Rocks.
