Heavy Metal Sunday kisses and makes up.
Oct. 11th, 2009 09:04 amMetal like any other community, has its feuds and drama queens. Two of the biggest lightning rods for drama are Megadeth's Dave Mustaine and Slayer's Kerry King. They've been feuding for years, starting when Mustaine tried to get King to quit Slayer and go full time with Megadeth. They've slagged each other in interviews, had screaming arguments backstage at festivals, written derisive commentary about each other, the whole nine yards. King, a militant atheist, was particularly harsh when Mustaine publicly converted to Christianity and started touring with his own minister. Both men have taken time off their own battle to get in feuds with most of the metal world at one point or another.
But last summer, there was a thaw. Slayer and Megadeth did four shows together in Canada. Both bands then continued on to Australia for a tour. Two days ago, Slayer bassist/vocalist Tom Araya damaged his voice during a show in Melbourne, forcing Slayer to cancel their portion of the tour. In a move that shocked the metal press Dave Mustaine invited Kerry King to play with Megadeth that night. King did, and they evidently kicked ass.
Hopefully, some video will emerge from that show. But today, enjoy Slayer playing Raining Blood.
