Well, that was exciting.
Dec. 23rd, 2008 06:07 pmDriving home from work, I got an urgent call from
kshandra. The Niece of Last Resort had suffered a seizure (brought on by a fever, she's fine now) and
baka49er was over at my sister's place watching the Emergency Back-Up Niece. Problem.
isomeme and Niece Prime (aka
madelineusher) were flying in this afternoon, and
baka49er was supposed to pick them up.
kshandra couldn't get away from work, Ann and Bill were at the hospital, so it was thought "Have Doug pick them up!"
Great idea. Except for one teeny detail. I drive a Ford Ranger, which can carry one passenger safely. While I certainly wouldn't mind stuffing my brother in the bed and throwing the cargo net over him, I think others might object.
Instead, I go over to my sister's place to relieve mom so she can go pick up my older sibling and his spawn. Which left me in charge of a very smart, very active, three-year old child.
Alone. I was soloing with no ground instruction. It was like one of those awful Airport movies in the seventies. Luckily, Kylie is smarter than me, and can run the TV. She also quickly figured out that "Mommy says I can do it" would be answered by "shall I call her and ask?" We watched Word Girl and Cyberchase (which features Christopher freaking Lloyd's voice as the main bad guy.) Kylie and I had fun.
Bill and Ann came home with the Regan person, and the Emergency Back-Up Niece seemed to be just fine.
But there's more drama. Remember my brother and his daughter flying up from L.A.? Flight canceled, and my mom was tuck sitting in SJC's cell phone lot. I told her where a nearby Denny's was, but I doubt she moved.
But my teeth are finally out, and thank Halford today was pretty light.
