gridlore: Doug looking off camera with a grin (Atheism - God)
One of the links over there to the left is to Fundies Say The Darndest Things, a collection of the insane rantings of people who have OD' on religion. One of the major sources for quotes is a site known as Rapture Ready. The forums here are populated by people that make every Christian look bad. They are all convinced of three things:

1. Jesus is going to be back any minute now.
2. They will all be raptured.
3. They are always right.

Some of the posts are actually sad. People who refuse to advance their lives, turning down college, marriage, anything because it is obvious that The End is Nigh and there's no point. Part of me really would love to visit these people on their deathbeds and ask them about their wasted lives, but these posts are a distinct minority. Far more common are the usual vindictive, rabidly right-wing, "we're right, no one else counts" kind of ranting.

I was content to read the posts in FSTDT and on occasion follow links back to read the thread. But the other day, I read something that prompted me to create an account just so I could reply. One of the Rapture Readys was simply horrified to see that her neighbors had put up an Obama sign. Seriously, she was scared shitless by this. Within two replies the idea of vandalizing the sign with a red "N" in front of the O appears. And they're off. Everyone loves the idea of destroying other peoples property. Posters bemoan not having enough money to paint over every sign in town. People actually suggest setting fire to the sign as a suitable display. But what got to me?

A poster states that she would put up a McCain sign, but was afraid of having it vandalized or having a rock thrown through her window because "that's what the Left is capable of."

WTF? I registered, and wrote a polite reply pointing out that the entire thread had been a celebration of vandalism; which wasn't exactly the Christian way to deal with someone who disagrees with you. I pointed out the hypocrisy of saying vandalism was some the left does when we had three pages of posts stating it was okay written by self-described far right conservatives. I finished with Matthew 7:3-5

Banned immediately. To be clear, I wasn't confrontational, never lied, supported my points with the only source they accept, and called them out for something Jesus said was wrong.

Ladies, Gentlemen, others, this is the Religious Reich.
