One of our vendors is literally in the middle of nowhere. Marsh Creek Road is currently undergoing a year-long widening process, which means that it was been closed to east bound traffic at Sellers.
Two days ago, I noticed signs saying the road would be closed to all traffic today from 0900 to 1300. Since this neatly brackets the times I usual get there, I called the office to tell them that any order scheduled for Thursday should be moved to Wednesday or Friday, since odds were I'd not be able to get to the vendor.
Today, about 0930, I get a call. They need me to go to this vendor. *sigh* I explain that I only have two more drops before I'd pass by there, and it would make no sense for me to bypass Brentwood, go all the way to Livermore, do my stops there, come all the way back to Brentwood, and then head back down Vasco to 580 and home. "Do what you need to do." was the gist of the reply.
So I ended up taking a 90 minute lunch. This would be the one time MM was ready, willing, and able to unload me the moment I showed up...
The suck was that it was still early enough that most of my good lunch spots in that area weren't open yet! I ended up at Jack in the Box and ate chicken strips and read my book. I notice I'm really tending to eat more chicken than anything else on the road.
Anyway, I figure a good time to move, and manage to get to Marsh Creek just as they are pulling up the cones. This is why I rock, I know my route that well that I could determine the exact driving times.
Get back to the warehouse and Tim glares at me. "What did you do now? The owner wants to talk to you!"
Tim was of course being an ass. I was getting my Christmas bonus. 350 dollars, which was much appreciated.
Now I have a three-day weekend. We get an uncharged paid day off for our birthdays. Way back in July, I thought I had arraigned to take one PTO day and my birthday to cover Westercon and my b-0day, but they mistakenly charged me two days of PTO. So I needed to take the day before the end of the year. After some dickering over dates, I got this Friday.
Hmm... My "birthday" and I have a lot of money...
