Jerry Falwell Dead at 73
May. 15th, 2007 11:18 amThe Rev. Jerry Falwell, the television evangelist who founded the Moral Majority and used it to mold the religious right into a political force, died Tuesday shortly after being found unconscious in his office at Liberty University, a school executive said. He was 73.
I'm sorry, but I cannot, will not, mourn the passing of a man who dedicated his life to destroying civil liberties, establishing one-religion rule in America, and was a complete, howling hypocrite. Jerry Falwell was not a Christian. He was a bigoted, power-hungry, monster who used religion the way Hitler used German nationalism.
In a way, I almost wish I was a theist. Then my image of Jerry getting a very rude shock right about now would have more meat to it.
