Le 30 Avril 1863
Apr. 30th, 2007 05:52 pmToday is Camerone Day
( We Have Munitions... )
The Legion, and all infantry around the world celebrate Camerone Day.
I post this every year. It is important to understand that we know and remember the men of the 3rd Company of the Foreign Regiment because someone wrote down what happened in detail. In every war this sort of thing happens. Infantry, cut off, short on supplies, vastly outnumbered; but they fight on beyond all expectations of duty and valor. They fight on even when surrender is offered as a way out. Roarke's Drift, Bastonge, Fire Base Baker, Mogadishu... and every other corner of some foreign field where young men decided singly and as a group to fight on. Even if the battle was already lost, even if the worst they could do was to sting the enemy, they chose to sting.
That is the spirit of the infantry, and it goes back to the guys who marched on Ur carrying spears.
( Follow Me! )
Absent comrades! *CRASH*
