A weekend of firsts
Feb. 19th, 2007 08:14 pmAlong with the usual stuff over this long weekend (laundry, reading, not driving a big truck) I did a couple of things that were, if not new, then fairly rare.
Sunday evening we headed out to Kirsten's favorite club to meet up with
sylvan. Paging through the karaoke book, I noticed that they had Super Heroes on the play list. I mentioned that it might be fun to get up and sign this. Two beer later, I found myself with microphone in hand. People tell me I have a good voice, but I know I'm not a good singer. I really have a bad ear for my own voice compared to the music, so I tend to be way off pitch. So singing into a microphone in front of a rowdy audience was a big leap for me. Luckily, there had been a couple of songs from Rocky sung already, so the crowd was really into it. Kiri says I did a good job.
All things considered, the crowd was lucky. Also in that book? Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction, Judas Priest - Breaking the Law, and Metallica - Master of Puppets. I think those three would have fit in with the show tunes...
Today, Kirsten had to make a run down to Pantheacon, and I, being bored, tagged along. Yes, Doug went to Woo-Con. We mostly hung out in the Hospitality Suite and made a quick pass through the Dealers Room. I kept my Vulcan snarkiness firmly buttoned down, but one thing almost set me off. A button that said "Astrologers love Heavenly Bodies" No, you love idealized mythical superstitions about heavenly bodies.
We left, and had a very unsatisfactory lunch at Denny's (how do you run out of French Toast?) We then sallied forth to my sister's place to show off the Cruiser and get face time with the Amazing Kylie. Who recognized us, and was cute beyond measure. She's decided that saying "please" (which comes out "peas") is a magic word that will make mommy and daddy do whatever she wants. Nice try, kiddo. Ann, being a weirdo, wants to have the Baby To Be Named Later on Kylie's birthday. Because, y;know, that worked out so well for the two of us.
In all this, we forgot to make a run to the store. Oh, well.
Congrats to
madelineusher! Riverside looks like a good school. Here's hoping a few more acceptances come in so you can have a selection.
Heading off to bed soon, 0500 comes way too early.
