As y'all might expect, i spend a lot of my time at work listening to the radio (news mostly.) While I find most advertisements annoying, this one that has been playing recently actually makes me seethe with anger.
Evidently, Sprint has a new business service that gives you a toll-free number with free incoming calls. Sound pretty cool, and I can see where it would be a godsend for small businesses. The ads are, for the most part, well done (if you ignore the fact that in reality no human would us the phrase "free incoming call" multiple times in 30 seconds.) But one ad.. oy.
It starts with a woman asking her (presumed) husband/boyfriend/SO how his day went. He proceeds to tell her, describing the free incoming calls he got about his construction business. What pisses me off? The female. She immediately tunes him out, is sarcastic, and the entire vibe is "I don't really care about your day."
Folks, you ask me how my day went and you are going to hear about mangled orders, traffic conditions, and morons who order 2,000 feet of 1/2" all-thread without have a forklift on site to offload. That is my day. It is what I do. You might also hear about interesting things I saw along the road, or something funny that happened in the warehouse, but for the most part, my day is driving and handling materials. If I ask
kshandra how her day went (when she's working) I fully expect to hear about computer problems, office politics, and all the things that her job entails. Same for any of you. If I encounter any of y'all and ask about your jobs, I fully expect to hear about that job!
So this commercial annoys me beyond any reasonable level. I really want to scream "if you're not interested, don't ask!" at the radio.
Speaking of work, I've gone from a 0700 start to an 0630 start. This is an attempt to help decrease the morning traffic jam as we try to load. I'm still a little constrained in how fast I can load since Gene (the West Bay/SF driver) parks next to me and takes forever to load. I can almost understand it - he does drive in San Francisco and needs everything loaded in a very specific way - but it drives me nuts when I only need to load two pallets and I have to wait for him to move.
Strange dream the other night.. Elton John on The Muppet Show singing "Social Disease". Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem were all dressed as hillbillies with the usual assortment of farm animals.
Two weeks to Spring Training! Two weeks to Spring Training! This year is ours! Bonds will pass Aaron (which will drive the haters mad) and the Giants will beat the New York Yankees 4 games to 1 after Bonds launches a 3 run home run in the bottom of the 9th of game 5 at AT&T Park.
I'm of two minds on the Superbowl. On the one hand, it would be nice to see Peyton Manning win the big one, and bring the Colts their first title ever in Indianapolis. On the other, I feel the same way about the Bears' Brian Urlacher. And Da Bears also feature Rashied Davis, a former San Jose Sabercat. Hell with it, I'm rooting for a good game.
Other than that, not much going on. Have a really good, ascendable wizard in Nethack right now (which i will not screw up the way I did before. In a little bit, we're going over to
baka49er's for dinner with her and
isomeme.
