gridlore: Doug looking off camera with a grin (Me - South Park)
Yesterday as I was leaving work, I cut through the office to get to the time clock. Being in a silly, Friday-ish mood, I started singing Happy Trails. Three of the sales people joined in. I love my job.

Well, most of the time. Yesterday I had two potential crazy-makers. I had to go all the way out to Stockton. No big thing, I know exactly where this place is, but when I get there, their shop is closed. Luckily there are people in the office who can run a forklift and get the all-thread off my truck (660 feet of 1" thread is too much to off-load by hand.) Then there was the Concord drop. This one just screamed "wrong" from the moment I looked at it. The delivery wasn't a company name, but instead a man's name. The address was in a residential area, and it was a credit card COD, meaning the purchaser doesn't have an account with us. I called the contact number when I finished my next-to-last job, and got what was obviously personal voice mail. I explained who I was, and that I was about to come into the neighborhood with a 34' truck, please call me.

I got to take a new road (Bailey Road from Highway 4 into Concord) which cuts through the old Concord Naval Weapons Station. Not a bad drive, I'll have to remember it. Find the address after driving down several roads with weight restrictions (screw you, cops - I'm making a delivery!) and find that this is an apartmeny condo complex where the designers expected people to be driving Yugos, not International trucks. Carefully squeezing through the parking lots, I find the address. Call the contact number again. Leave another message. Get out, find the apartment, and knock. No answer. No strut for you!

Mixed news on the Giants front. Bonds resigns for one year @ $16 million (with performance incentives that could push that to $20 million) which I approve of, but then Jose Uribe dies in a car wreck in his native Dominican Republic.

Uribe was of course the infamous "player really to be named later." When he entered the Major League with the St. Louis Cardinals, he used his birth name of Jose Gonzales. However, during the trade process with the Giants he decided there were too many guys named "Gonzales" in baseball, and changed his last name to his mother's maiden name - Uribe. A Giants coach comment that made Uribe the only real player to named later in a trade.

Today we're supposed to go to the Baycon Holiday Party. At this point, I'm waffling. I'd love to get out and see people, but I've been sick all week. I'm tempted to stay at home in bed.
