Ex Miscellanea
Dec. 6th, 2006 03:34 pmWell, I made it into work today. Not sure that was the best idea; since I still feel like crap, but I made it through the day without causing massive accidents or delivering stuff to the wrong people, so I guess the day was a success.
One of my deliveries to Sandia National Labs. To get there, I had to go through security at Larry's Rad Lab. Which is a joke. Drive into the bay, and two very serious U.S. Cavalry models make sure that I don't bring any proscribed material into the hallowed grounds. Things like recording equipment, radio broadcasting equipment, or detachable computer drives. They clear me, and I drive in with my two cell phones (one a Nextel with push-to-talk) and my iShuffle, which is basically a small computer drive. Great work, guys!
Amazingly enough, I was the first driver to finish. After taking lunch (snoozing in my truck) I hung out waiting to see if I was taking an order to a site in San Jose. That fizzled. Then I unloaded and loaded the Benicia truck. There was nothing left to do, so I begged off and went home.
Note to bum: Telling me that you need money for food while holding a half-full 40oz malt liquor bottle will result in me telling you to eat grass. You want to drink yourself to death? Fine, but it isn't going to be on my dime.
I need a little help from the filkers on my list. We picked up the Balticon Tapes CD at Silicon, and I've grown very fond of Duane Elms' Falling Down on New Jersey. Problem is, the lyrics are hard to make out in several places due to his singing voice and the usual quality of sound you get from live filk. Anyone have the lyrics for this song?
After a long break to collect my thoughts, I'm going to start cracking on The Concordat again. Look for updates.
Been reading Lonely Planets. Excellent book, and very approachable. Really helping me understand some areas of astrobiology I hadn't quite grokked before.
Looks like Giants ace Jason Schmidt has sold his soul to Satan and signed with Los Angeles. Here's hoping he stays healthy and has a terrible year.
