Yesterday was... let's just say that if I hadn't already gotten today off to get together with some friends, I would have called in sick.
I had a long route. Out to Tracy, up to Pittsburg with a lot of side trips to odd little job sites. I got back in pretty good time, right at my eight hour mark. At which point my big boss asks me if I had any plans for the evening.
"Well, sex. Assuming the trapeze has been installed."
After the entire office stopped laughing, I was told that there had been a Major Fuck Up. A World Class, Red Alert, Oh God, Oh God, We're All Going To Die fuck up.. and I had to drive to Benicia with two pallets. Folks, that is about 60 miles one way. At the beginning of rush hour. At least I got to take the new Ford F-350 flatbed. This meant I could bypass weigh stations and better yet, no speed governor on the thing!
Call Kirsten, get loaded, start driving. I lucked out. Morons had completely screwed up the Bay Bridge commute so the normal mass of people coming up 24 to 680 weren't there. Get to Benicia, get off loaded, and head back.
Did you know those trucks can do 98mph? Me either, until I came down the Sunol grade.
Made it back, clocked out after 11.5 hours, and Kiri poured queso and Corona down my throat.
Evidently, I am now owed lunch. I'll take a raise, thank you!
