My job has its ups and downs...
Sep. 8th, 2005 06:51 pmEspecially when I spend the day working in the warehouse running the forklift. As I requested, I had a full day of lifting, lowering, shifting and stacking, and am now far more comfortable with the lift. My main problem, aside from dealing with the fact that I'm lifting five tons into the air on a slender looking pair of forks, was that in many cases I simply could not see what I was doing! Trying to adjust the height and angle of the forks by trial and error is nerve-wracking when a few tons of somebody else's stuff is 30 feet in the air and you are moving it around. But I endured. Now when I have to load or offload my truck, I won't be as hesitant when operating the lift.
Today also helped me with some career planning. PODS loves to promote from within, and I can see myself as a warehouse manager in a few years. Once I get sick of driving, that is.
On another note, my uniforms showed up today! Finally! Of course, when I drove to the Hayward office to pick up the payroll El Jefe freaked. According to him, my "new" uniforms are recycled from another company with a PODS patch sewn on along with my name patch. He was not pleased to see this, considering he's paying for new uniforms. I was witness to the ass-chewing he gave over the phone. Impressive.
Other than that, life proceeds apace. It is so nice to have my Kiri home again. Now we just need to clean everything she took to That Thing In The Desert, and find a good place to store it until next year. I'm still determined to see this place clean, and soon. I'm working Saturday, so Sunday may be D-Day for the clutter.
My bloody Giants managed to lose two games to the hated Dodgers in the final inning. Priority for next season: a bullpen!
Well, I'm going to order oodles of stuff from Hero Games and call it an early night.
