I've avoided ranting about the Schaivo situation in my journal. I'm sure most of you know, or can guess, my position.

But yesterday, several protestors were arrested for tresspassing at the hospice facility.. they were trying to bring Terri cups of water.

Which would have killed her. See, she hasn't had a swallowing reflex in a decade. Pour water down her throat, and it goes right into the lungs.

This shows the level of idiocy of the "save Terri" people. They don't care about the most basic facts of the case, prefer to believe in flights of fancy that this woman, lacking a cerebral cortex, will someday sit up and speak. It isn't going to happen.

Were I in charge at the hospice, I would have taken the trespassers into a conference room and told them in gloating terms how they almost committed murder, how they were idiots, and that they should all go finish grade school before making medical judgements.

Just back from my interview at Intex Auto Parts.

I think it went well.

After getting called back, I was handed a quiz. Ten situational math questions. Since I had no scratch paper I did the problems in my head. And finished in five minutes. That seemed to impress the person I was speaking with. Then it was onto an online personality test. Typical true/false thing.. "I feel tired upon waking", "I enjoy going to bars" and the like.

After that, I was interviewed. Interestingly, they seemed to be excited by my dispatching experience. We spent a lot of time discussing CAD systems, radios, and the stressful situations I encountered while at SuperShuttle. There were other questions about the 18-month gap on my resume (I explained about the health thing) and my limited experience in warehousing (dates back to the Army, when I worked in my company supply room.)

The job, if I get it, is 40 hours a week, 0830-1730 (so I imagine there's an hour unpaid lunch in there). Pay was quoted as $8.50 - $9.50/hour based on experience. With my skills, I imagine I'd come down in the middle somewhere. After the usual tax bite, I'd be making around $1,100 a month. Kaiser after 90 days, one week paid vacation up to five years, then three weeks.

I'll be able to get there on the bus, but it will be ugly. So a first priority will be buying a used motorcycle (once the bills are all paid off.)

I'll hear in a week or so, keep various things crossed! But don't cross the beams, Egon.
