OK, work sucks, the apartment is a mess, and I'm still fighting some sort of allergy/cold fusion that gives me boogers from hell, but I've a spring in my step, and a smile on my face.

Why?

I started a new 49ers Franchise game in Madden 2003. And check out my offensive leaders..

At Quarterback, Tom Brady (Rating: 87)
Halfback Duce Staley (86)
Wide receiver Terrell Owens (97)

Duce is good for 3 or 4 yards on most downs. In two games so far, he's rushed for over 100 yards both times. So that sets up the play action pass beautifully. TO gets loose in the secondary, and the man catches everything that comes his way. Brady's incredible accuracy doesn't hurt. On my first drive with this team, against the New York Football Giants (with apolgies to Chris Berman there) they connected for a 74 yard TD.

The best part? In this game, TO can't talk! All he does is play football.

This came at a cost. Once I had Brady and Owens, I shunted building my defense aside to get the offensive pieces in place. My only standouts on defense so far are defensive tackle Bryant Young (92) and free safety Kwamie Lassiter (97). I see several glaring holes that will be filled next season in free agency and the draft. I traded my second round pick to drastically improve my position at left guard (going up about 20 points and getting a younger player in the deal.) So I have to depend on a lot of ball control to keep the other team from shredding my secondary. Lots of runs and long counts.
